The Nineteenth Century at Villa Farnesina. The Duke of Ripalda, Count Giuseppe Primoli and Rome as the new capital of Italy.
The exhibition. The Nineteenth Century at Villa Farnesina. The Duke of Ripalda, Count Giuseppe Primoli and Rome as the New Capital of Italy has exploredto the architectural, social and cultural transformations that affected the Villa after the Unification of Italy.
Inaugurated on the occasion of the conference Villa Farnesina: an example of resilience and enhancement from Roma Capitale to the present, the exposure has tellsto the impact of urban modernization through the figures of the Duke of Ripalda and Count Giuseppe Primoli, witnesses of Rome’s change. On display are photographs, evidence and nineteenth-century decorative apparatuses – such as faux curtains and sughi of grass – have highlighted highlight the stylistic adaptation of the Villa, in contrast and dialogue with the Renaissance frescoes. The last section, devoted to the urban context, delved into the section of the Aurelian Walls preserved in the garden of the Farnesina and has presentedto, thanks to the École française de Rome, the unpublished drawings of Virginio Vespignani, a leading figure in the capital’s renewed architectural vision.
